Joe has written over 1500 songs that include songs recorded by Elvis Presley, Marty Robbins, Dolly Parton, Porter Wagoner, Mel Tillis and Stonewall Jackson. His biggest song is the classic "I Washed My Hands in Muddy Water," which has been recorded by over 40 artists. Joe has also written many gospel songs which have been included in the albums by "The Babcocks" entitled "Jesus Walked On The Water", "Have You Knelt At The Foot of The Cross," and "Journey". Three of the songs in the albums have charted; Have You Knelt At The Foot of The Cross, Barnabas, and Today I Prayed For You, which stayed in the charts for 32 weeks.
